A new festival on the beach will see Gilles Peterson, A Man Called Adam, Talvin Singh, Faze Action, Ben Osborne, Flying Mojito Brothers, Luna and many more acts play a 24 hour seaside feast of music and art.

First light is the creation of Wayne Hemingway and Flipside Festival and will feature music stages on the beach and in the Japanese Gardens as well as a club venue in the town.

Noise of Art’s Ben Osborne is curating a stream of music at the Festival on 22n?d and 23rd June in Lowestoft,Suffolk.

The Festival kicks off with Mercury award-winning musician Talvin Singh and culminates in a special sundown set by BBC Radio 6Music’s Gilles Peterson followed by a beach silent disco – including a special guest performance by Wayne Hemingway, one of First Light’s founders and a prolific collector of vinyl from northern soul, through funk, underground, disco and boogie. Plus Danny Boyle will present a beach front screening of his film Sunshine and a full program of arts will take over the shoreline.

DJ Line-Up

Talvin Singh is kicking off the day’s events. The celebrated tabla player and Mercury award-winning musician will open the festival with his unique mix of percussion and electronic music. Talvin will then return to the sunrise stage to greet the dawn with a reworking of his renowned and evocative piece called “Light”.

A Man Called Adam are responsible for spearheading Balearic House, Chill out and the UK House Nu disco. Their recently-released album ?Farmarama (Other Records 2019) has been described as “brilliant” by Gilles Peterson and “the sound of summer 2019” by Danny Rampling.

DJ Simon Lee, aka Faze Action, along with brother Robin, has  released five critically acclaimed artist LPs and countless remixes, making FA one of the most credible and in demand original artists within the growing Disco, House and Balearic scene. Their live shows have seen them connect with audiences on every continent including Glastonbury and as support for Groove Armada’s US tour.

Ben Osborne, is an international DJ, writer, musician and award-winning creative producer who has played main stages at festivals such as Latitude, The Great Escape (Brighton Dome), Big chill Festival, Glastonbury, Sonar opening party, Chateau Perché, Technoparade, MaMA Paris, Spot (Denmark), Berlin Music Week and many others. He joins First Light after recent events at The Social and Fabric in London and Prague’s The Cross, as well as support DJ slots for Groove Armada and Booka Shade. Ben is the founder of Noise of Art, the London-based pioneering music and cross platform arts organisation.

Pan-American disco bandoleros The Flying Mojito Brothers have been making Americana danceable again. Producer/musician Ben Chetwood and DJ/digger Jack Sellen’s VJ show features on-the-fly remixing, edits, live instrumentation and trippy visuals. Their refry of 77:78’s ?Chilli on Heavenly recordings, was the ubiquitous Balearic track of summer 2018.

LUNA Cohen Solal, a Paris-born, London-based DJ whose eclectic style brings together music from the past and present, familiar and foreign, from Nigerian boogie to UK garage, old-school hip-hop to Nu disco. She is a resident at Sketch in London and has been playing her uplifting tunes at parties all around the world, from Paris Fashion Week to the beaches of Zanzibar.

Ben will be joined by Jack Hemmingway at the club event before and after the Gilles Petersen set where Jack will be spinning his carefully-curated tracks. A key member of the HemDes team, Jack led the creative vision behind the successful regeneration of Dreamland in Margate.

More artists will be confirmed nearer the time including the full line-up of DJs performing at the beach silent disco.
